Downsbrook Out Of School Club
At Downsbrook we have a long-standing relationship with The Downsbrook Out of School Club, who provide wraparound care on site.
‘Downsbrook Out of School Club’ opened at Downsbrook Primary School in 2006 offering after school care.
The club grew and due to demand we started offering breakfast and holiday clubs.
Our aim is to provide a safe and inclusive child centred environment where children can relax before and after a busy day at school, meet new friends, play and have fun!
Our club is Ofsted registered and offers Out of School Care for children aged 4-12 years.
We have a breakfast club and after school club which open during term time.
The breakfast club is for children attending Downsbrook and Whytemead schools, and runs from 7:45 until the start of school.
The after school club is for children attending Downsbrook, Whytemead, Springfield and Lyndhurst schools.
After school sessions finish at 4.30 or 6pm.
We also have the Holiday Club which is open from 8am-6pm during all half terms/ holidays and welcomes all children from all schools. (We are closed between Christmas and new year)
At breakfast and after school club, children attending schools other than Downsbrook are transported in our mini bus/ Galaxy or walked to and from the school. The lower school children attending Downsbrook are taken to/ collected from their classroom, the older children are taken to/ gathered at a central meeting point.
Children are provided with a healthy breakfast at breakfast club and are offered a choice of healthy snacks and water during after school and holiday club sessions.
The staff are experienced, qualified Playworkers and or Early Years workers who are passionate about the wellbeing of children and young people, and offer support and guidance to those in their care during their natural transitions and growth.
We take an individual approach to childcare and work closely with parents/carers, and the schools we collect from and operate from to ensure that the welfare and needs of each child are met and that our services are of the highest standard.
Our setting has been designed around children and young people. Their views and opinions are very important to the way we provide our service.
We believe that it is important for children to have access to a range of play types and to take ownership of their space. With this in mind we have consulted them directly about what they would like to see at their club. We have been able to identify that after school they are often tired and want to relax so we have provided a sofa area and a cosy cushioned area. The children have access to a TV (films only, and for limited periods at certain times) and music, arts and crafts, puzzles and board games. There is an outdoor area where the children are able to construct and plant, exploring risk and creativity. They are able to ride their scooters, go on skates or play sports on the playground, with the added privilege of picnics on the field in the summer and those much needed water fights!! We also have access to the school hall for large indoor creative and physical activities.
In order to book a show round we would ask you to contact us to book an appointment via email afterschool@downsbrook.org or phone 07857735000
Once you have had a show round, are happy with the details of our service and want to book your child in to the club we will ask you to submit a booking form and registration forms, and we will be happy to register your child/children with us. The club will be able to discuss with you at this time what type of booking may work best for your circumstances. We offer both regular bookings which mean that you retain the same days each week, and ad-hoc sessions which allow more flexibility. Parents/carers can offset the costs through the childcare element of working tax credits or childcare vouchers (subject to eligibility).
