Creating the right learning environment is one of the biggest factors in determining a child's success; socially, emotionally and academically.
Our Learning Environment
The learning environments that we create in schools are a crucial part of supporting children in succeeding and making progress in learning as well as social and emotional development. We aim to create environments where children thrive. It is essential that to secure high quality outcomes, high levels of engagement and achievement that we focus our attention on the environments and spaces that we create. Here at Downsbrook we work hard to ensure that we provide children with learning environments that are engaging, nurturing and child centred. We want to ensure they have have spaces that reflect them and their needs as learners and that motivate them to always try their best.
We celebrate and support all areas of learning through our bright displays of children's work and we are particularly proud of the range of creative learning that is on display throughout our school.
Creating a positive learning environment also includes building a learning ethos with the children, supporting them in being ambitious in their goals and ready to take risks to secure new learning. The importance of the learning environment is a key part of our inclusive approach throughout the school.
Our Facilities
Downsbrook is first and foremost unique because of our children, our families and our dedicated staff. The commitment, passion and care that our school community exudes is a testament to our belief in the future of Downsbrook and every child who walks through our doors.
Our uniqueness, which shows itself in many ways, extends into the outstanding facilities that we have on site. Previously a Middle School, our large school site amalgamates the buildings of two schools on one campus and affords us space and facilities that are rarely seen in a Primary school setting. Improvements to the school mean that we are very lucky to benefit from bespoke and dedicated spaces including a full school library, two ICT suites, interactive whiteboards in every classroom, two spacious performance areas, a food technology room, a music suite, an art and design room - incorporating a kiln - and a fully equipped science laboratory: enabling us to cater for the needs of all our children. Our extensive playgrounds, playing field, nature areas and Community Cabin are also rich resources that we value greatly. Together, these areas support us in delivering alternative and experience rich learning that stretches beyond the classroom and extends into the outdoor environment through our Forest School Provision.
