Forest School
Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning. The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire individuals through positive outdoor experiences.
By regularly participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks in an outdoor environment, children have an opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, sound emotional and social skills as well as high levels of independence and problem solving.
Downsbrook is now in its seventh year of running its forest school. The school site is established with woods, gardens and open grass areas. The sessions are led by a forest school qualified member of staff and are supported other experienced staff along with a dedicated team of volunteers. The session run throughout the year in all weathers. Our younger children have a shorter session every week and the older children have a long session every three weeks.
